The objective of the Eco-Ambassador program is to educate participants about how to reduce the amount of food waste they produce and empower them to not only change their own behavior but to share their knowledge and communicate opportunities for change to others in their community. We hope the Eco-Ambassadors spark a chain reaction of awareness and waste-saving behaviors that will spread throughout Jersey City.

After this 3-hour training course, Eco-Ambassadors sign a Pledge to adopt a food scrap recycling option where they will log the amount of food waste they divert from their garbage. They will also be expected over the course of the following year to devote 12 hours (1 hour per month) to speaking with friends, family and neighbors about how they too can reduce the amount of food waste they generate. We need to start reducing the tremendous toll food waste is having on the environment, one family at a time :-)

Eco-Ambassadors will be given a tool kit of information, tips, and talking points to allow them to effectively communicate what they learn. In addition to reducing their own food waste footprints, the most impact will be the personal experiences the Ambassadors share with those they interact with to spread the need for behavior change across a wider group of people.
